Character and Casting

Who is in the video?

Bailee Maddisn, Kaite Madison and Guy Pearce.

What is each person’s motivation in the video? (In other words, what does each character want?)

Bailee wants the scary shadows to go away but when she tells her parents about and after a while her mom believes her but his dad is still in denial.

How does the casting influence how you see the characters?

The casting influences how I see the characters because Bailee does funny movies and not scary movies so I can’t take her seriously.

How do costumes contribute to how you see the characters?

The costumes that the main characters wear make them see them like ordinary people but the “monsters” and the whole makeup that go into them makes them look “scary”.

Setting

Where is the video set?

The video setting is in an old house.

Why/how is this setting significant?

The setting is significant because it gives it a eerie look and adds to the suspense of the story.

What stands out about the setting?

The part that stands out in the setting is the basement because there is a scary scene there.

Camera Work

What kinds of shots were used in the video? (Long, wide, etc) How did they affect the story?

Some of the shots made in the video was close-ups to build the suspense and then have a scary guy pop out.

What kind of camera angles was used?

The type of camera angles that were done were like if the camera was hiding from the characters so the viewer feels like he is inside the movie.

What point-of-view do the camera angles suggest? Is the camera acting as the eyes of a character or of the audience?

The camera has a sometimes a point of view of the audience, sometimes of the shadows, and sometimes of the little girl.

How does the camera move? What effect does camera movement have on viewers? The camera moves as the main characters run or move. The effect that the camera has on the viewers is that it shows their expression and how they feel.

Does the film use slow motion?

The film does not use slow motion.

How is the film edited? What effect does the editing have on you?

The film was edited by taking shots around the whole house and putting them all together to create a scene that could last an hour and putting it in 2 minutes.

Is there music? How and when is it used? What is its effect? What mood does it create?

At the beginning of the trailer there is like piano music which adds to the thrill and suspense of the trailer. It creates a scary mood.

There is like explosive affects or strong sound when something pops out.

Does the film make use of voiceovers? When? What is their effect?

The film does not use voiceovers.

How else besides music is the mood created?

By the sound effects.

The character wants to persuade the people to buy the Chrysler.

How does the casting influence how you see the characters?

The casting influences how I see the character to get me more pumped for the car because Eminem has motivated songs and beats.

How do costumes contribute to how you see the characters?

The costumes influence how I see the characters by telling me that great things come from urban places like Detroit and Eminem is not dressed all suited up.

The video set is in the streets of Detroit.

The setting is significant because it shows the uniqueness of the car.

What stands out about the setting?

The thing that stands out about the setting is the harsh cold climate which makes the car look good.

Close up shots and long shots were used in the footage. The close up shots was to give the viewer the suspicion of who’s driving the car. The long shots are to show the setting and where the car is going.

The type of camera angles that were used were rotation and straight shots.

What point-of-view do the camera angles suggest? Is the camera acting as the eyes of a character or of the audience?

The camera is acting in the eyes of the audience to see where the main character is going and how he connects with car.

The camera stands still but changes shots a lot wich gives the viewer of the whole world being yours and being still.

The Film does not use slow motion.

The film was edited to show parts of Detroit and going back to the car and then the main character. This made me pay more attention on the video.

There is a song of Eminem playing. It is used trough out the whole video to lead to the big finally. It keeps us watching the video. It creates like an inspirational mood.

There is sound effect of construction.

The film does use voiceovers. There is a person talking the whole time which tells us about how badass the car is.

The mood is created by the setting.
