Nina De La Rosa

Commercial for the Samsung Infuse

Characters and Casting

1. In this video there are three characters who are focused on: a woman and two men. There are also several characters in the background who are extras and are not focused on.
2. As the commercial comes on, the three main characters are working on business and want to know the best way they should travel to get to a nonspecific location.
3.The people in the commercial all look very professional and well put together, even in the ones in the background. This leads me to believe that all these people are respectable and the type of person who has their life on track.
4. The costumes also added to there respectable demeanor because all the men are wearing business suits and the women are wearing professional work clothes as well.

Setting
1. The video is set in a fancy restaurant, probably in a big city, that has a very upscale feel.
2. Because the characters in the video are very professional it would be logical for people like that to eat in a very nice restaurant. If the restaurant was more humble--like Village Inn for example-- the characters would look out of place.
3. Some things that stand out in the setting are the trees in the background. The trees look very exotic because they have pink flowers blooming in it and whatever type of tree that is is not common. Another thing that stands out is that the left wall of the restaurant is almost completely windows. Therefore there is a lot of natural light that comes into the scene which is refreshing.

Camera Work
1. In the commercial, there were long shots and close ups. Most of the commercial is in a fairly close long shot and show the three business people sitting at the dinning table. The close up shot is used when one of the characters puts a phone on the table with a screen displaying a threatening looking spider.
2. The only types of camera angles used were the ones where the camera pointed directly at the people at the table and one where the camera in above the phone "looking" down on it.
3. The camera is the point of view of an audience member not one of the characters. But when the camera shows the phone, it could be a character at the table. This is because the phone is placed in the middle of the table and you would have to be sitting at the table to look down at its screen.
4. The camera only moves once. This is when the focus is taken off of the group of workers eating and put on the cellular phone on the table. This gives the audience a glimpse of the phone, which looks very nice, and makes them take interest in it because it is only one the screen for a few seconds.
5. This commercial does not use slow motion.
6. The commercial is edited very well and is put together nicely which gives the effect of a story. After the short story with the characters, a narrator talks about the phone and how great the images that it produces are. The phone looks very nice and make me want to have a nice phone like that.

Mood and Soundtrack
1. There is music at the beginning of the commercial and at the end. In the beginning there is classical music playing in the background that gives off a ritzy feel. It also creates a calm environment in the restaurant.
2. Besides music, there are other sound effects. Like silverware clinking on plates and when the character Dave slams his shoe on the phone.
3. At the end of the commercial there is a narrator who describes the phone and what network it is on. The main purpose of the voice is to give more information about the cell phone
4. The lighting in the video gives off a calming mood, and the props in the restaurant also contribute to this mood.

Cowboys and Aliens Trailer

Casting and Characters

1. In the video there are several successive actors and actress. These people would be Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, and Daniel Craig.
2. Daniel Craig's character wants to know what happened to him because he can't seem to remember anything.
Olivia Wilde's character knows who Craig's character is and knows some of the answers to the questions he has.
Harrison Ford's character is the sheriff of the town and wants Craig's character to be handed over to him so that he can question him about his robotic bracelet.
3. Because Daniel Craig is an action star from movies like 007, I will expect his character to be one the main characters and have advanced skills in combat; this expectation goes for Harrison Ford as well, even though he is getting a little too old for fighting. As for Olivia Wilde, She is a very pretty woman and based off of her characters in the past (like 18 from House) I assume she will be a love interest from the character played by Craig, even thought they have a large age difference.
4. The characters are dressed in western clothing like vests and cowboy boots. I think these characters are cowboys or live a cowboy lifestyle.

Setting
1. The video is set in the desert, a saloon, and in what I assume to be an alien spacecraft.
2. The setting is important because the characters are cowboys so they need to be in a dessert, or in that type of region. Also since the character played by Craig has a type of connection with the aliens it makes sense for him to be on an alien spaceship. This makes the story more believable.
3. Some things that stand out about the setting is the alien spaceship. There isn't much to see when it is showed, so it's hard to tell what is in it. It has an air mystery that combines with Craig's missing memory that make me wonder what his relation is to the aliens.

Camera Work
1. There were long shots that showed the environment that the characters were in, and there were close ups on the faces of the main characters of the movie. These shots showed emotion of the characters and the places that the movie would be taking place.
2. When Wilde's character and Craig's character were on the space ship the camera is tilted at an angle and this makes it feel mysterious. Otherwise, for the most part, the camera had no unusual angle.
3. The camera angles in the trailer suggest there will be a mystery in the the film. The point of view of the camera is like that of an audience member who is watching the story take place but is not involved in the actual story.
4. The camera zooms in a few times with pull in the viewer's attention and there are many quick cuts which make the viewer put together several images and figure out what happens between them.
5. Suprisingly, there is no slow motion in this movie trailer. There is a lot of slow moving, however there is no slow motion.
6. The clips in the trailer are very quick. They slow a lot of action in some of them and the viewer has to pay close attention if they want to know what happened. This makes me believe that there will be a lot of action in the movie because a good majority of the trailer was action.

Mood and Soundtrack
1. There is music in the trailer and it creates a suspenseful mood. This mood starts to form about a fourth of the way into the trailer and is when the general plot comes in. There is also music that plays to create an adrenaline feeling, and this in when the action begins to take place.
2. There are gun sound effects, stabbing sound effects, explosion sound effects, and machine sound effects in the trailer.
3. There is not a voice over. But there are titles in the trailer in between clips that show who is involved in the movie, like the producer and director.
4. How the characters act and what is happening in the scenes create the mood, but the music really ties everything together.

FA 1435 Introduction to Electronic Art and Design: FA 1435 Introduction to Electronic Art and Design...

1. Morgan Spurlock had so much trouble finding sponsorships because of who he was in the pass for all the things that he did. all those things gave him a bad imagine. they were not also really sure of his product if it was going to work.

2.The roles that cooperation’s play in this video is how we see things and how we aprove them. people from companies see others companies works to make theirs better they get their ideas and everything but they try to do it different. an example is the movie harry poter all the series that they did they were almost the same.

3.the brands that identify me are puma, hollister.
puma because soccer is my favorite sport and puma has pretty cute soccer shoes. hollister because since i has a kid i always had use their shirts, and because how they make their clothing it's unique.

4.The cool hunters and those who use the information they supply are similar to colonial powers because, they wash teens minds since teen don't know what they are doing. they made things so fake that appear to be cool.also sometimes it doesn't even has all the materials that they said it's going to has.

5.The Merchants of Cool” were wrong, because i don't think that they know how a teenager does. Many of the teenagers in america are very different form eachother not all of them like the same things or do the same things. i don't think that people has a clue of how teenagers are.

6.yes i think i am because any time that something new comes out everyone wants it even if not that awesome but everyone is going to get it. like an example of the iphone when it first came out everyone had it. or when the companies make commercial they have cute models and they make us the clients buy their stuff.

7. I think companies go after teens are through famous people ,some examples are when a proffesional player is wearing cool shoes makes all his fans buy the same shoes. or when they said that something is going to make you better if you use it and they put fake people so you can believe them.

8. no i don't really have any questions everything made sense to me.

FA 1435 Introduction to Electronic Art and Design: Blog #2 - So Who Is In Control?

FA 1435 Introduction to Electronic Art and Design: Blog #2 - So Who Is In Control?: "First watch the all of the videos listed below in their entirety. They can be found in menu titled “video” on the blog • ..."

Mercy Olaka

24, June 2011

1. Morgan Superlock had such difficult time finding sponsorship for his film because the brands/ companies didn’t want to be involved in it especially since they wouldn’t have control. It’s not their product that is being sold, so they didn’t want to have anything to do with it. For example, when Ted talked about how the companies wanted him to tell his story, but they want to tell their story as well. Since they weren’t in charge of this video, then that’s why they didn’t want to help.

2. The roles that cooperation’s play in what we see and how we see it is that they get ideas from other companies, and they use that idea as their own except they add some changes and transform it to be their own. They have no creativity when it comes to designs because they just use ideas from others; make it their own by adding some kinks to it. For example, many of the shows on Disney channel are very similar.

3. The brands that I identify with are Apple, computer, Adidas, and Costco. There are many others out there, but these are the basic ones.

"In much the same way that the British Empire tried to take over Africa and profit from its wealth, corporations look at [teens] like this massive empire they are colonizing And their weapons are films, music, books, CDs, Internet access, clothing, amusement parks, sports teams."
-Robert McChesney – Merchants of Cool

4. Yes, “cool hunters” and those who use the information they supply are similar to colonial powers because they use the information that they find to get to the kids. They exploit teens by finding what they know that they love, and they create more of that because they know that since teens love it, then they would purchase more of that product. Teens think its cool that they are offering more of what they like, and in term, will spend a lot of money to get that product.

"They don't call it "human" research or "people" research, they call it "market" research."
- Douglas Rushkoff - Merchants of Cool

5. The marketers in “The Merchants of Cool” did not get this right because the teens begin to think they are the enemies. All they want to do is to be able to figure out who the teen is, and what kind of things they like, and then try to go out and advertise that to them. Also, MTV understanding you as a person would look like them not trying to take your money. They would provide the things that you like and that fit your need to make you happy as a person. They wouldn’t try to get you to pay for the things they’ve created. For example, they would get the time to know you, and who you truly are instead of trying to bargain for your money.

6. Yes, I think that I am manipulated by brands, because you see something that you like, or want, and you have to buy it, if you don’t, then you feel bad. It’s like you have to get it because you love it, and when you see others with it, you feel jealous because you’ve always wanted what they had. For instance, if you see someone with the new Nike shoes, and you’ve been dying to have them, you would go out and work hard to make sure that you can get some Nike shoes.

7. Some examples of the way I think that companies go after teens through advertisement is by either telling them that they will get paid to just try on their product, and advertising it, or when they buy the item, then they begin to advertise for that company because their friends might see what they have on, and tell their friends, and so on. For instance, using the same pair of Nike shoes as the example, once your friends see you in that, then they’ll want to buy it as well. It’s like you are a walking talking advertisement for them.

8. Yes, seeing these videos has led me to thinking about how I express my identity because when I buy that brand, or product, then it shows the company how foolish I am that I feel for their advertisement. It also makes them successful because now they know how to get to their audiences. They know what would increase the profit of their products, and in which way they should advertise it to get the best of the people watching it.

The question that I have about these topics is how do some of the people feel knowing that they are exploiting teens in a negative way? Mostly what they try to use to reach out to the teens is sex, parties, and drugs. Even though they sell their products, and are successful in doing it, do they feel happy in the process they took, and knowing that the teens future may be destroyed?

FA 1435 Introduction to Electronic Art and Design: Blog #2 - So Who Is In Control?

FA 1435 Introduction to Electronic Art and Design: Blog #2 - So Who Is In Control?: "First watch the all of the videos listed below in their entirety. They can be found in menu titled “video” on the blog • ..."

1. I think the reason Morgan Spurlock had such a hard time finding sponsor ship was because he only had the basics to an idea but didn’t have a well thought out plan on it. Also he didn’t sound so motivated on his plan.

2. Corporations work in changing the way you see things by using effects such as Emotion. For example the ASPCA doesn’t just show a dog and say it needs help like this video unlike this one that adds such emotion as sad in the video in order to get people interested in helping out.

3. K no answer

4. It is not like a colonial power that was the weirdest way for some one to phrase how teens are adapting to the new brands styles e.t.c. And cool hunters are not exploiting teens they are only providing desired benefits for example this Jordan commercial which is a desired shoe for sporting people something one would want.

5. No "The Merchants of Cool" did not get it right because to answer there questions on why once a brand becomes famous easily looses its cool is exactly because as soon as everyone has one it becomes lame and that’s why they always move on. If MTV really knew me it wouldn’t just be all ghetto music it would be both ghetto and good music or also put stupid party shows for example “Jersey Shore” “Worst Prom Ever” and more that are just stupid with no meaning.

6. I do not believe brands are manipulating teens because they only say what we want to hear not what we don’t and that’s why they make what they know we want for example the AXE commercial which is not manipulating us it only made a commercial on how the product AXE can get us to smell very good and at the same time be so attracting to Woman its not manipulating its only being smart.

7. I think the way companies go after teens through advertising is by involving their product in something teens do a lot for example the Brisk commmercial they mixed it in with hobbies teens like to do and at the same time leaning to what helps get it done.

8. This tells me to enjoy my identity and i have no questions on these topics.

"Dude y r u reading this"

"dude im nt reading it "

"ya u r loser"

"idiot stop reading"

"you just got pranked with this conversation jaja"

FA 1435 Introduction to Electronic Art and Design: FA 1435 Introduction to Electronic Art and Design...

1. Morgan’s Spurlock had a hard time finding sponsorship for his film because he just thought about media and the way it affects us and how and controls what we buy.

2. big corporations play a huge role in trying to take money from us teens in alot of ways. they can have us buy some certain product because its famous or want us to buy elctronics like ipods and phones.

3.some that i identify with are nike and clothing like southpole and tapout. i couldnt paste the images so yea.

4.i think cool hunters are like solicitors and ar selling what we already have and trying to improve it so we buy the newer version they are similar to colonial powers because they make us seem like were all 1 and we need them in order to live.

5. i dont think the merchants got it right. with websites like mtv and youtube we like to watchlisten to music becuase its what interests us if they were to get ird of it/change it we would not watch it and it would loose viewers.

6.i think that we are manipulated because we all follow ads and commercials we look for certain phones cars and clothes and shoes they want us to buy their product so we can act cool.

7.some ways advertisements go after teens are commercials,handouts/flyers also tells us whats new around to buy

8.these videos have shown me how obsessed our teens are with new stuff and how we look into everything we buy.the only ? i have is why do they still try to sell us stuff even if they arent new

Who is in Control? Assignment #2

1) Morgan Spurlock had a hard time finding sponsorship because he ruined the companys in his talk show.

2) Big corporations play a rold of how you see things. They spend all their money on all types of advertisment to get you interested in their product. No matter if it is clothing or technology.

3) The items that I am identified with are Southpoles and Victoria Sercet.

Victoria Secret effects women especially teenagers. They make teenagers want to try to fit in exotic sexy lingerie. They are very big on women and teens because of sex appeal.

Southpoles is a big deal to teenagers of both sex. Their clothing, style and shoes draws teenagers attention just like any other shoe brand.

4) Cool Hunters are people who are around selling and making millions off of people espcially teens. In my opinion I think it is the same kind of style that is out there just intereptated differently such as color or combinations of color and detail.

5) Cool Merchants of the cool are right. Teens listen to everything they like and want to hear. We are always trying to follow the style in our generation. For example: music, the radio. What we listen to on the radio is what is new and what is cool. As years go bye and new music is always made, not even thinking about the old music. To teenagers an old song is at least three to four years old. It is not yet brought up again until played on the radio or by peers.

6) Yes, I think we are manipulated by brands. For example, on commercials we are educated by style. If there is a new type of PC, cell phone, IPod or nano; we are hooked. We want it so much because its new and cool. And if you have it, our peers will think wow their lucky or rich or even cool.

7) Some examples, I think companies go after teens are through Proactive and xbox. In my opinion Proactiv is one of the biggest companies that are after teenagers. Teenagers tend to buy this product because of acne when in reality it is just about going up. As xbox is another company that gets teenagers even adults emune to the game system that they can even be social and talk to who they are playing with online.

8) After watching these videos, it has showed me how our world is always falling in advertisment. Also how teenagers are effected and always trying to look or be cool. Personally, this information didn't change me at all. I am a teenager and its kind of like a universal theme. It is always and will always be true.

Blog #2 Answers to Questions

1. Morgan Spurlock had difficulty finding sponsoring for his documentary because the sponsors would have no control of what Spurlock puts into the film. Since his documentary is supposed to be a behind the scenes of what the large companies and corporations are doing, in terms of advertising and so forth, the movie may end up presenting the participating companies in a negative light, which was why so many companies rejected to support Morgan Spurlock’s film. One of the corporations Spurlock asked to be a sponsor states, “Who knows, maybe by the time your film comes out we might look like a bunch of blithering idiots.” Companies were scared of the transparency of the film, and how much it would reveal about the inner works of their corporation.

2. Corporations play a large role in what we see and how we see it because it is the large corporations that put out so much advertising in the media, and we as the public, then take in all the commercials and marketing that we see all around us. For example, in the “Subliminal Advertising” video with Derren Brown, he hires two professional designers from an advertising agency to come and design a poster to advertise taxidermy stores. They have to design a company name, slogan, and a logo. In the end when they present their ideas to Mr. Brown, the two professional designers have an almost identical design to the one that Derren Brown made. The last clip of the video shows that all the ideas that the hired professionals had were based off things they saw as they were driving: the London zoo, school uniforms with gates, harps, signs, etc. This proves how large of a role corporations play in what we see and how we see it because even the expert designers are influenced by the corporation advertisements they see around them. We can also see how corporations play a large role in what we see with the Sprite company and their advertising. By signing a basketball player to advertise the product, throwing large parties with the Sprite logo and the drink itself all around, the company was able to make the soft drink seem “cool” and thus, increased sales.

http://www.sweettaterblog.com/2010/09/28/real-vs-advertised-food/

These two advertisements show how commercials can falsify and make products look better than in reality. This also shows how consumers easily fall for advertisements.

3. There are several brands I identify with. When it comes to clothing, I go for stores that are affordable but have cute clothes, such as Forever 21, Wet Seal, Papaya, and sometimes Kohl’s. The reasons why I identify with these brands are because not only are most of these stores located near my house, but their clothes are not ridiculously overpriced. As a teenager, I do not have a lot of money at my disposal, so finding stores that have cute yet affordable clothes are the ones that I identify the most with. When it comes to drinks, I do not like soft drinks very much, however, I really like coffee, thus, Starbucks is a brand that I like very much. Although the coffee is rather expensive, the reason why I identify with Starbucks is because the coffee is made quickly, which is very convenient, there are stores all around so they are easy to find, and of course, their coffee tastes delicious. Since I do not like bitter coffee, the fact that Starbucks makes very sweet coffee (sometimes it can’t even be called coffee) is a major reason why I identify with this brand. Lastly, when it comes to food and the like, I identify with brands such as Lindor (chocolate) and Lays (chips). The reason why I identify with these brands are because they are tasty an affordable. It is very easy to just grab these food items off of a shelf from my nearby King Soopers and by on my way.

(explained in paragraph)

4. “Cool Hunters “are like colonial powers in the sense that they use the knowledge they have to make products that will be most tempting to ignorant consumers who do not notice the trends and patterns in their spending and the kinds of things they buy. Cool hunters use the power they have in controlling books, music, media, or anything that can be seen by the public as forces of, as said by Derren Brown, “subliminal advertising.” By using these methods, they are able to keep us, the consumers, as slaves to economy. That being said, the difference between “Cool Hunters” and colonial powers are that people can choose whether they want or do not want to purchase something. Unlike the colonial powers who forced the Africans into submission, we as the consumers have a choice in whether we want to purchase things or not.

This example is of a woman choosing what she wants to buy at the grocery story. Although all the food looks appealing, she has the power to choose what she wants to buy.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1093908/
This movie is the story of a woman who cannot stop herself from shopping; she is just too addicted. This is an exaggerated version of what teenagers of our generation are like.

5. In my case, MTV does not know me because I am not interested in the majority of performances that were shown in the video. For one, I do not like slipknot because I’m not fond of music where all the person does is scream at you. Not only that, but I find the MTV spring break party rather appalling, and pretty much disgusting. However, I do like the music that is currently playing on the radio, minus the screamo and heavy metal. Basically, if MTV were to cater to my musical preferences, it would have the kind of music that is currently on the radio such as hip hop, pop, rock, and so forth (I like musicians like Bruno Mars, Train, and so forth because I’m those girls who like the typical girly music). If MTV was really based on understanding me as a person, it would also play music videos because I enjoy watching those. The one thing I did like about MTV was that it allowed its audience to choose what song would be played next; in my eyes, that shows that MTV is taking into consideration the interest of its audience.

www.israbox.com
This shows how MTV uses women as explicit objects to draw attention.

www.celeb.wohoo.co.uk
Although MTV doesn’t have much class, they often ask performers who are currently very popular to come and perform for the audience, showing that they take into consideration what the audience members want to see.

6. I am manipulated by brands to an extent. For example, there maybe be advertisements of cute clothes that are very appealing to me, from say Forever 21, however, it is my choice as to whether I go and buy what is being advertised or not. Although many people give in to temptation and buy whatever they want, everyone has the power to control what they do or do not purchase. At times, it is hard to say no because the advertisement is made to specifically grab our age group’s attention, however, everyone should be able to muster the willpower to say no. Companies make great ads to market their merchandise, and ultimately, persuade and attempt to manipulate us to buy their stuff. Though many people fall for it, it is not impossible to stay clear of buying these corporations’s merchandise.

www.icareremote.com
Mac is one of those products that look really nice and make you want to buy them. However, I choose not to have a MAC computer because I know that I do not know how to work them well and I can work much more efficiently with a computer that has windows (even if Macs are really pretty).

www.shoesandbags.tk
Jordans are a popular shoe brand, and although they have some nice looking shoes, I choose not to purchase shoes such as these because I know that I could buy perfectly fine running shoes for a much cheaper price than what these kinds of shoes can go for.

7. Corporations go after teenagers by playing up the “cool factor.” They base their advertisements off of ideas, objects, or people that they know are considered cool and will catch the attention of their main target: teenagers. However, what teenagers consider cool is always changing, so it is hard to always advertise in a way that will be most catchy to teenagers. For example, in the case of the Sprite Corporation, they initially were not as popular as other brands such as Coca Cola and Pepsi, however, the corporation came up with the innovative idea to hire a well-liked professional basketball to take part in their advertisement. The commercial was successful, but after the idea of using famous athletes or stars to advertise products became a bit tacky, the company improved their marketing tactics by paying people to host parties, all the while distributing Sprite merchandise (the logo was displayed everywhere as well). This helped improve the “coolness” of Sprite, and so their company began to do exceedingly well. So basically, corporations go after teenagers by advertising their products in a way that will be most appealing to teenagers. Although it is difficult to say what is cool (after all, it is always changing), corporations use their knowledge of teenagers and their preferences to their advantage. By using what teenagers find most appealing, corporations are able to go after our generation (and our money) quite efficiently.

www.newlatestwallpaper.com
This is a sprite advertisement that uses a famous athlete to promote their product. The girl is dressed up in athletic, yet somehow fashionable and appealing clothing, making the ad itself more likeable.

www.shinebox.co.cc
In this add, Nikes are being advertised. Not only is the product being advertised by an athlete, but he is jumping through the air and dunking the ball into the hoop, giving a “cool” effect.

8. Watching these videos has changed how I perceive myself. Before watching these videos, I believed that each person could have their own unique style and personality, however, these videos express that the majority of teenagers are just part of this marketing ploy by corporations to make teenagers spend money on their products. Instead of brands being part of a person’s identity, a person’s identity consists of brands. Brands and marketing have become so intertwined in our generation’s culture that it is now a dominant defining characteristic of who we are.
Question I have are:
• How will our incredibly marketed and advertised world affect future generations?
• How and when did marketing become such a large part of our lives? When did it begin?
• What have been, are, and will be the positive and negative impacts of the highly marketed world that we live in today?
• What would life be like if we did not have bazillions of brands and advertising all around us?

So Who Is In Control?

1. Morgan Spurlock had a hard time finding sponsors because the companies wanted full control. Most of the time when people don’t have full control over a project under their name they don’t like to cooperate. The companies were stuck in the domain and didn’t want to go out their comfort zones. They knew that if it came down to it the product would be directly handed to people, instead actually becoming a trend.

2. The corporations use what teenagers do to make commercial that revealing. Try to make seem as if they understand the teenagers; eventually making them feel like that’s the product I need. For example, Sprite renting out the Roseland Ballroom and pays kids 50 dollars a pop to attend the function and look cool. The rappers involved with the event get a spot on direct and that boost their popularity. The companies also have to keep up with the teenagers and change just as much as them; if not they will end up being viewed as un-cool. When I see things on the television most of the things I see are tight and something I’m willing to purchase or wear. Half the time my clothing changes because I want to be up to date with my surroundings. I would feel as if I’m the odd one out walking somewhere in a long skirt, or overalls and Shaq’s. I wouldn’t want people to have a reason to laugh at me, so I keep up with the trend or I’m already 10 steps ahead. Clothing stores as well play a HUGE part in how I see things. Old Navy make their clothes seem as if you’re not purchasing their products you’re missing out on the hottest sales.

3. .The brands I identify with Nike, Jordan, Hollister, Wal-mart, Target, Ross, and more. The reasons I go to these places are because they provide the style I look forward to wearing. Most of the time people think that I’m rich because Hollister and Aeropostale are expensive products of clothing. The brands to make me who I am but, it does contribute to the way people view me along with my personality. The brands don’t always have to be expensive you can look just the same shopping at Ross or T.J Maxx. Electronic wise iPod, laptops, and newest cell phones such as the androids

4. “ Cool Hunters” do have a type of colonial power over teenagers. When they did the interview with teenagers in their home; trying to figure what teenage life is like is exploiting them. They will spend millions just to convince the teenagers to want items, and if you don’t have it your life will be ruined. Most of the time variety of pop-ups occur and try to make you see their products. Even when you’re on a website such as facebook then banners will be around; displaying different ads.

5. “The Merchants of Cool” were wrong because they don’t know the teenagers as a person. Not everyone is the same and just by get certain people’s opinion is not accurate. They only can take what they portrayed from the interviews and show how they view the teenage life. It is not always right and could be consider judgmental. Sure some people may follow the others but it doesn’t mean that all go by what is always shown to them. They think they know teenagers but they have no idea.

6. Sometime I do feel as if I’m being manipulated by ads and companies. When I see something that is cute, and I know everyone is going to want them; I like to think I’m the first to get it when it comes out, having people asking me where I got it from. Sometimes I like to think I set a trend for most people but the ads take care of all that. Mainly when ads from Forever 21 come around, I’m always trying to make my way to that store. Once I have shopped and got attached to those brand names; the addiction is never ending.

7. The ads make everything seem more than what it really is. Yet I still get suckered into buying certain things just because it looks nice or it will be valuable for me. Companies portray the products as if everyone in the world has it; so why shouldn’t you? For instance, when Nike create commercials with basketball players running up and down the court, doing all kind of tricks to show off the shoes. Once they go for the dunk they always go zooming for the shoe.

8. These videos have not made me want to change at all. I’m surrounded by society that is considered a monkey see monkey do interpretation. I’m still going to shop at the places I like and I know how to manage my spending habits. If a product cost too much then my trait from my dad kicks in; being cheap is the best way to go. Companies have found great ways to convince me and other people in my youth to buy things we don’t necessarily need. They make it hard to separate needs from wants.

Whos in Control

1. Morgan Spurlock had so much trouble finding sponsorships because of who he was. His past film had a major impact in the fast food industry, many company’s did not feel secure sponsoring him for the fact that his film could have a
negative impact on the company and his product.

2. Corporations play a major role in what I see in my everyday life. From there walking mannequins to the advertisements I see on television. In my everyday life I see product placement in music videos and television shows. I
watch plenty of music videos and almost all of them have product placement. With us watching seeing these products everywhere and feeling a sense of comfort with these products we tend to buy them.

3. My main brands are DC shoes ,Fox Clothing , And T-Mobile Sidekick.DC
Shoes are comfortable and I like shoes that aren’t basic colors and
styles. The shoes looks fade away fast but the comfort stays the same for a very long time. I have about 6 pairs of DC Shoes and I only wear the same old pair every day. The shoes aren’t the best if you plan to go jogging but there amazing to be walking and standing around in all day. Fox Clothing is cheap and usually matches my shoes. There skate boarder/ snowboarder style shirts are what I buy. I have always have had T-Mobile, but The T-Mobile Sidekick brand is what fits best with me. I have always had every Sidekick since the started making them. I bought the T-Mobile 4G the day it came out.

4.The cool hunters and those who use the information they supply are similar to colonial powers. They exploit teens, telling them what they want such as the Clothes, Video Games, and
everything else they’re selling or trying to make you buy, just like the colonial powers made others believe that they were right.

5. The "cool hunters" are right and very good at what they do.They know what information is needed and they get it. They help create TV shows like the jersey shore. They helped make these shows because ridiculous and funny. The characters are funny because they know what is going to make us laugh. If MTV were to reflect me i would of been on it, I had a large opportunity to be on MTV's Made but i changed my phone number and forgot to call them. MTV is doing the best job at getting teens hooked on there programing and that's whats going to help them succeed.

6.Yes I am manipulated by brands. My whole family is being manipulated. My mom has more
Couch purses then a Couch store. My brother is all about is Burrberry. I always want the newest thing out.

7. Apple goes after teens make the IPhone and the IPods “cool”. There a must have and everyone wants one. They make the IPods several colors so anyone can get there style. Dell is going after teens. There making their laptops have changeable tops. So they can fit the teen’s style.

8.Yes, my identity is important abut right now I feel like I’m just helping company’s sell more of their products. How do companies come up with these ideas of research teens? Why do they spend so much money in finding out what the upcoming trends are when they could make their own?

FA 1435 Introduction to Electronic Art and Design: Blog #2 - So Who Is In Control?

1. 1. Morgan’s Spurlock had such a difficult time finding sponsorship for his film because you have no idea what the subject is, it could blow up on your face specially if he makes your company look stupid, it would be a very bad media because he could ruin your company in his talk show, and because so many people watches this show it will influence the company eventually having a horrible reputation.

2. 2. Corporations play a huge role in "what you see and how you see it" because they spend millions on their marketing advertising the products through things like newspapers, billboards, TV, computer, clothes, and etc. to make sure that you’ll buy their product. For example as soon as the phone Htc Evo 4g came out I was so hyped because the advertisements, tv, computer, and the media said how brilliant this product is going to be and now not even a year later they have a new Htc Evo out. Click here for to see the new Evo and the advertisement just like this, they will show no flaws on the phone they will simply talk about how brilliant it is so you have no negative views on the phone. "A phone that sees the world like you do, in 3D."catchy caption simple and elegant to make people attracted to the product. As you can see on the same page they have a phone there with a car flying out of it. They’ll use those kind of small things to influence people to believe you want this phone using Photoshop to make the phone look flawless, making you believe you need this phone when if you think about it why would you want a 3D phone. Would you really ever watch a movie on your phone? It’s those small things that they use to make people believe they want and need something they really don’t. Plus back to Photoshop they also make models wears clothes they're selling and edit on photoshop so they look great influencing you to think you'll look great on it too.

3. 3. The brands I identify with are Hollister and American eagle because of the public. All of the friends I know shops their which influences me to buy my clothes from their too. I also go to those stores because I’ve been there since I was little so I naturally love those clothes because I’ve been shopping there for so long. Also because the clothes there might be expensive but I would rather buy a good shirt for 15 dollars than buy a cheap one that I might probably never wear. The last and the most important reason is the logos itself, I love those logos because I’ve seen it so much that I naturally love to wear clothes with the logos in it to show what your favorite brand is, which is also advertising.

4. 4. "cool hunters" and those who use the information they supply are similar to colonial powers because just like the British Empire tried to take over Africa and established just like that the companies looks at teens in the same way. They’re exploit teens by media and telling them what they want such as the TV's, the Clothes, DVDs, and everything else they’re selling or trying to make you buy.

5. 5. MTV is also has a huge impact on advertising because that’s where we see how teens dress and we start dressing like them too. However, I don’t believe MTV knows me because I’m not very much into television and even when I do watch it MTV is not something I would watch, I would rather watch something like animal planet or history channel because of my love of animals and learning. If MTV was really could understand me as a person than it would have music on full time like it used to because I love music.

6. 6. Yes, I’m very manipulated by brands because I change phones a lot. Now that the new evo’s out I’ve been begging my dad to buy that for me too, it’s the advertising but what they say that really gets in my head is NEW evo. I automatically think to me it’s going to be better, its new how it could not be. I also shop where everyone else shops if I wasn’t manipulated I truly believe I wouldn’t be shopping there. The environment is also a huge factor because everywhere you go to the mall, to the school, or anywhere you will see people with a huge Hollister sign in their shirt, like a walking billboard which influences me and everyone else around them .

7. 7. Companies go after teens through advertising by knowing what they do and what they like. They know that a lot of teens read newspapers , watch tv, use their phone, use the computer, and etc so they attack those places newspapers have tons of ads just like tv and the phone’s have apps they want teens to buy. They know what they use on the computer ex. Facebook, youtube, and etc so they attack those places in youtube if you haven’t noticed theirs a ad before every single video, and facebook has a lot of apps, and games that they want you to buy. When teens are bored they look for games and when you play the games and some require you to buy things with real money such as Farmville, texas hold em, and others.

8. 8. Yes, seeing these videos has made me feel used because I’ve done these things without even thinking about it, it was a normal everyday thing for me I never sat down to think what they’re doing now I feel that my eyes have opened. I don’t have any questions about this topic because I feel that it’s very clear. They attack teens because we’re easy to manipulate and there’s more of us than adults in the world.
