Commercial for the Samsung Infuse
Characters and Casting
1. In this video there are three characters who are focused on: a woman and two men. There are also several characters in the background who are extras and are not focused on.
2. As the commercial comes on, the three main characters are working on business and want to know the best way they should travel to get to a nonspecific location.
3.The people in the commercial all look very professional and well put together, even in the ones in the background. This leads me to believe that all these people are respectable and the type of person who has their life on track.
4. The costumes also added to there respectable demeanor because all the men are wearing business suits and the women are wearing professional work clothes as well.
Setting
1. The video is set in a fancy restaurant, probably in a big city, that has a very upscale feel.
2. Because the characters in the video are very professional it would be logical for people like that to eat in a very nice restaurant. If the restaurant was more humble--like Village Inn for example-- the characters would look out of place.
3. Some things that stand out in the setting are the trees in the background. The trees look very exotic because they have pink flowers blooming in it and whatever type of tree that is is not common. Another thing that stands out is that the left wall of the restaurant is almost completely windows. Therefore there is a lot of natural light that comes into the scene which is refreshing.
Camera Work
1. In the commercial, there were long shots and close ups. Most of the commercial is in a fairly close long shot and show the three business people sitting at the dinning table. The close up shot is used when one of the characters puts a phone on the table with a screen displaying a threatening looking spider.
2. The only types of camera angles used were the ones where the camera pointed directly at the people at the table and one where the camera in above the phone "looking" down on it.
3. The camera is the point of view of an audience member not one of the characters. But when the camera shows the phone, it could be a character at the table. This is because the phone is placed in the middle of the table and you would have to be sitting at the table to look down at its screen.
4. The camera only moves once. This is when the focus is taken off of the group of workers eating and put on the cellular phone on the table. This gives the audience a glimpse of the phone, which looks very nice, and makes them take interest in it because it is only one the screen for a few seconds.
5. This commercial does not use slow motion.
6. The commercial is edited very well and is put together nicely which gives the effect of a story. After the short story with the characters, a narrator talks about the phone and how great the images that it produces are. The phone looks very nice and make me want to have a nice phone like that.
Mood and Soundtrack
1. There is music at the beginning of the commercial and at the end. In the beginning there is classical music playing in the background that gives off a ritzy feel. It also creates a calm environment in the restaurant.
2. Besides music, there are other sound effects. Like silverware clinking on plates and when the character Dave slams his shoe on the phone.
3. At the end of the commercial there is a narrator who describes the phone and what network it is on. The main purpose of the voice is to give more information about the cell phone
4. The lighting in the video gives off a calming mood, and the props in the restaurant also contribute to this mood.
Cowboys and Aliens Trailer
Casting and Characters
1. In the video there are several successive actors and actress. These people would be Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, and Daniel Craig.
2. Daniel Craig's character wants to know what happened to him because he can't seem to remember anything.
Olivia Wilde's character knows who Craig's character is and knows some of the answers to the questions he has.
Harrison Ford's character is the sheriff of the town and wants Craig's character to be handed over to him so that he can question him about his robotic bracelet.
3. Because Daniel Craig is an action star from movies like 007, I will expect his character to be one the main characters and have advanced skills in combat; this expectation goes for Harrison Ford as well, even though he is getting a little too old for fighting. As for Olivia Wilde, She is a very pretty woman and based off of her characters in the past (like 18 from House) I assume she will be a love interest from the character played by Craig, even thought they have a large age difference.
4. The characters are dressed in western clothing like vests and cowboy boots. I think these characters are cowboys or live a cowboy lifestyle.
Setting
1. The video is set in the desert, a saloon, and in what I assume to be an alien spacecraft.
2. The setting is important because the characters are cowboys so they need to be in a dessert, or in that type of region. Also since the character played by Craig has a type of connection with the aliens it makes sense for him to be on an alien spaceship. This makes the story more believable.
3. Some things that stand out about the setting is the alien spaceship. There isn't much to see when it is showed, so it's hard to tell what is in it. It has an air mystery that combines with Craig's missing memory that make me wonder what his relation is to the aliens.
Camera Work
1. There were long shots that showed the environment that the characters were in, and there were close ups on the faces of the main characters of the movie. These shots showed emotion of the characters and the places that the movie would be taking place.
2. When Wilde's character and Craig's character were on the space ship the camera is tilted at an angle and this makes it feel mysterious. Otherwise, for the most part, the camera had no unusual angle.
3. The camera angles in the trailer suggest there will be a mystery in the the film. The point of view of the camera is like that of an audience member who is watching the story take place but is not involved in the actual story.
4. The camera zooms in a few times with pull in the viewer's attention and there are many quick cuts which make the viewer put together several images and figure out what happens between them.
5. Suprisingly, there is no slow motion in this movie trailer. There is a lot of slow moving, however there is no slow motion.
6. The clips in the trailer are very quick. They slow a lot of action in some of them and the viewer has to pay close attention if they want to know what happened. This makes me believe that there will be a lot of action in the movie because a good majority of the trailer was action.
Mood and Soundtrack
1. There is music in the trailer and it creates a suspenseful mood. This mood starts to form about a fourth of the way into the trailer and is when the general plot comes in. There is also music that plays to create an adrenaline feeling, and this in when the action begins to take place.
2. There are gun sound effects, stabbing sound effects, explosion sound effects, and machine sound effects in the trailer.
3. There is not a voice over. But there are titles in the trailer in between clips that show who is involved in the movie, like the producer and director.
4. How the characters act and what is happening in the scenes create the mood, but the music really ties everything together.
